Server Cabinet & Cat6 Patch Cord Buying Guide UAE – 4U Cabinets, 20M Patch Cords & 3M Ethernet Cable

If you're setting up or expanding a server room, two things almost always come up together: rack space and cabling. This guide covers the specific sizes and lengths people search for most — 4U server cabinets, 3-meter gigabit Ethernet cable, and 20M Cat6 patch cords — with real specs and options available in the UAE.

4U Server Cabinets — What "4U" Actually Means

Rack units (U) measure vertical space inside a server cabinet — 1U equals 1.75 inches (44.45mm), a standard defined by the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA-310). A 4U cabinet or chassis gives you 4 rack units of usable mounting space — enough for a handful of network switches, a small server, or patch panels in a compact footprint.

We stock several 4U options depending on what you're mounting:

• ✔ 4U 600×450 Wall Mount Rack Cabinet — single-section, with built-in fan, for wall-mounted server room setups where floor space is limited
• ✔ Bolein 4U Wall Mount Network Cabinet (BLWM-6404) — 600×450mm, 19" standard rack width, removable side panels for easy cable access
• ✔ SilverStone RM44 4U Rackmount Server Case — supports SSI-EEB motherboards and up to 360mm liquid cooling radiators, built for high-performance rackmount servers rather than just network gear
• ✔ SilverStone RM47-502-I 4U Interchangeable Chassis — steel construction, pre-installed fan, supports up to 280mm radiators

For larger deployments beyond 4U, we also stock APC's 24U Easy Rack Cabinet (19" bracket width, with roof, side panels, and castors) for full server room builds.

Cat6 Patch Cords — Common Lengths Explained

Patch cord length matters more than people expect: too short and it won't reach; too long and excess cable creates clutter and potential signal degradation over unnecessarily long runs. Per the TIA/EIA-568 cabling standard, Cat6 supports Gigabit Ethernet up to 100 meters, so all the lengths below are well within spec.

3-Meter Gigabit Ethernet Cable

A 3M cable is a common in-rack or short-run length — long enough to route between a patch panel and a switch a few units away, without excess slack. Our Norden Cat6 U/UTP Patch Cord (3M, Grey PVC) supports full Gigabit Ethernet speeds and is available in-stock for same-day dispatch.

20-Meter Cat6 Patch Cord

20M cords are typically used for longer in-building runs — connecting a rack in one room to a device or outlet in another — without needing a full structured cabling install. We stock:

• ✔ Norden Cat6 U/UTP Patch Cord 20M — Orange PVC
• ✔ Norden Cat6 U/UTP Patch Cord 20M — Blue PVC

Color-coding longer runs like this (orange vs blue) is a common practice for quickly identifying circuit types or VLANs at a glance in larger installations.

Other Common Lengths & Shielded Options

We also stock 2M patch cords (Grey and Orange PVC) for short in-rack jumps, and a Norden Cat6 S/FTP Patch Cord (2M, Grey, Shielded) for environments with higher electromagnetic interference, plus Cat6A U/UTP options where 10 Gigabit speeds are needed instead of standard Gigabit.

Quick Reference: Which Length Do You Need?

Use Case	Recommended Length
Within the same rack (patch panel to switch)	0.5M – 2M
Between adjacent racks or a nearby desk	3M – 5M
Across a room or between floors within a building	10M – 20M
Beyond 20M	Consider bulk cable + proper structured cabling instead of a single long patch cord

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the maximum length for a Cat6 cable run?

Cat6 supports full Gigabit Ethernet up to 100 meters per the TIA/EIA-568 standard. Beyond that, signal degradation can affect performance, and fiber optic cable becomes the better option for longer distances.

How many devices fit in a 4U rack cabinet?

Depends on the equipment — a 4U space typically fits 2-4 network switches, or one to two 1U-2U servers plus a patch panel. Check your specific device's rack-unit height (usually 1U or 2U) before ordering.

Do you supply bulk Cat6 cable, not just patch cords?

Yes — alongside ready-made patch cords, we stock bulk Cat6 and Cat6A cable reels for structured cabling installations. See our networking cables page for the full range.

Conclusion

Whether you're fitting a compact 4U cabinet into a small server room or running a 20M patch cord across a building, getting the right size and length upfront saves you from clutter, signal issues, or a cabinet that doesn't fit your equipment.
